Located approximately half-way between New Plymouth and Hawera in the Taranaki region, the ‘grass is always green’ town of Stratford was named to honour the great playwright's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Most of the street names have a reference to Shakespeare and at the town's famous Glockenspiel clock where five-minute renditions of his play, Romeo and Juliet, play at various times during the day.
