Tall Poppy Tauranga: Sharing the Christmas Spirit to ‘Stuff the Bus’
During late November and December, the bus is parked outside local businesses and is a place where people can donate non-perishable food, clothing and presents.
The Tall Poppy Team gets ready to Stuff the Bus
Janet O’Shea, Owner of Tall Poppy Tauranga South, was inspired to give back to the community after seeing how difficult it is for people to provide extras for their children when they’re struggling to get by.
“Unfortunately, we know many families experience real hardship and it’s incredibly difficult for them to put food on the table or provide gifts at Christmas. I’ve been in the real estate industry for many years and have seen first-hand in homes the struggles some families go through. This is our way of giving back to people who are doing their best but need a helping hand,” says Janet O’Shea.
Each year Stuff the Bus supports a number of local charities, and this year the donated goods and presents went to:
Homes of Hope
Tauranga Women’s Refuge
Shakti Women’s Refuge
Good Neighbour Trust
Janet O’Shea says it’s been a real team effort with Tall Poppy Tauranga South, Central and Bethlehem all doing their bit to fill the bus.

“We want to thank our community for donating so generously, ensuring those in need can celebrate Christmas. For us, this is what the festive season is about - giving back and supporting our local families,” says Janet O’Shea.
The clothes, presents and food were given to the local charities at Tauranga’s Annual Christmas in the Park held on the 7th of December.
