From guiding tourists in the Australian outback to property development in New Zealand, Grant brings a world of experience to the property market in the top of the south, as the owner of Tall Poppy Picton and Marlborough Sounds and Tall Poppy Nelson Tasman.
Grant’s love for the outdoors led him to working and living in Japan, American and Australia for many years, chasing thrills and spills on ski slopes and wildlife and hidden treasures in the Australian outback.
Now, based in the Marlborough Sounds and working closely with his teams around the top of the south, he’s excited to combine his love for the outdoors with his property expertise.
“Between working as a stonemason in my early career, to developing property in Blenheim, I’ve always travelled,” Grant says.
“I’ve spent a significant amount of time guiding tourists in the remote Kimberly region of Western Australia and also the remote regions of Kakadu/Arnhem Land near Darwin, living in a swag, cooking on a camp fire every night and exploring vast tracts of land.
“But coming home to New Zealand and revisiting all the places I explored as a kid growing up - Abel Tasman National Park, the Marlborough Sounds, the glorious beaches and campgrounds in Golden Bay, the vast and inspiring Kahurangi National Park and the rugged Richmond Ranges - I knew there was nowhere else in the world I’d rather live and work.”
Grant established his property credentials by developing a number of properties with his brother in Blenheim. He then began his career in real estate in Picton before becoming the owner of Tall Poppy Picton and Marlborough Sounds franchise in 2019 and the Tall Poppy Nelson Tasman franchise in 2020.
As a franchise owner, Grant gets the best of both worlds, he says.
“On any given day I can come across a pod of dolphins when I’m out showing a client a home and will often begin the day watching the sunrise on my jetty.
It’s exciting to be able to combine my love for the outdoors with my love for property. I chose to go with Tall Poppy because they’re an innovative, forward-thinking company. I’m pleased to be able to offer fairer real estate fees to everyone in the top of the south.”
Grant offered friendly, helpful and no nonsense service. We rate the service 5 stars.

I found the experience of selling my parents estate very stressful, My agent Grant Douglas was brilliant! He took the stress away and we were well informed of what was happening, with regular phone calls and property reports. The house was sold quickly and for a price that I was happy with. I rate the overall service received from Grant as 5 star and would highly recommend Grant to my friends and colleagues.
Our first meeting with Grant was when we came to an open home at the house we currently own. Grant was very pleasant and knowledgeable. We not only bought that house, but we also chose Grant to sell the house we had at the time. He did that with perfect timing and remained a calm voice in the middle of a stressful time for us. Since then, we have again chosen Grant to sell another of our properties. The fact that he lives in the sounds is very convenient when it comes to viewings, contract signing and general enquiries. He is very approachable and has a great sense of humour. I recommend Grant for all your real estate needs, he will provide a professional, thorough service and make major decisions easier.

I cannot fault the professional and personable service provided by Grant Douglas. Grant went beyond any expectations of what a real estate agent is required to do. Nothing was too hard, from showing people through the house out of hours, letting maintenance people in, opening and closing windows during the day…. Communication was excellent, I received regular emails and phone calls updating me on every step of the process. The weekly reports were totally unexpected and extremely interesting and informative. In all, an extremely positive experience, to what would normally be a stressful process.
