“Crocodile Dundee” to Picton Property Expert

9 July, 2019

From guiding tourists in the Australian outback to property development in Marlborough,  Grant Douglas brings a world of experience to the Picton and Marlborough Sounds property market, as he launches the newest Tall Poppy Real Estate franchise in Picton.

Grant Douglas says he’s always had a love for the outdoors, which is why he’s settled in the Marlborough Sounds after living and working in Japan and Australia.

“Between working as a tradesman in my early career, to developing property in Blenheim, I’ve always travelled. I’ve spent a significant amount of time guiding tourists in the remote Kimberly Region of Western Australia and also in Kakadu/Arnhem Land near Darwin - living in a swag, cooking on a campfire every night and exploring vast tracks of land.

“When I had the opportunity to guide people on the Queen Charlotte Track many years ago, I fell in love with the area and knew I this is where I wanted to live. We feel incredibly privileged to live in such a picturesque area.  The Sounds have one-fifth of all of New Zealand’s coastline, hundreds of beautiful bays, yet most homes are within a 45-minute boat ride into town. You just can’t beat it,” says Grant Douglas.

Grant Douglas and his brother established their credentials by developing a number of properties in Blenheim. He then began his career in real estate in Picton in 2016 before becoming the owner of the newest Tall Poppy franchise, which launched on 1 July 2019.

Michael Seymour, Tall Poppy Director and Owner says they’re excited to be in Picton and the Sounds.

“We’re over the moon to have a capable character like Grant join us. He has solid business acumen, a great way with people and is highly professional. Grant understood our model instantly - knowing the team he builds can charge far less but still deliver a premium real estate experience. The area is such an amazing place and we look forward to seeing all the fabulous properties come to the market,” says Michael Seymour.

Grant Douglas says owning a Tall Poppy franchise means he gets the best of both worlds.

“On any given day I can come across a pod of dolphins when I’m out showing a client a home and will often begin the day watching the sunrise on my jetty. It’s exciting to be able to combine my love for the outdoors with my love for property.  I chose to go with Tall Poppy because they’re an innovative forward-thinking company.  I’m pleased to be able to offer fairer real estate fees to my community, the place I’ve chosen to call home”.
